And honestly? I believe them. Because hair fall in a city like Varanasi is not a simple problem. It rarely has one cause. And that’s exactly why one shampoo or one oil is never going to fix it completely.

Let me explain what’s actually going on.

First, Let’s Talk About the Water

This is the question I get asked the most. “Is our water causing my hair fall?”

The short answer — yes, it contributes. But it’s not the only thing.

Varanasi’s tap water is hard water. That means it has a high concentration of minerals like calcium and magnesium. When this water sits on your scalp and hair regularly, it builds up over time. This buildup makes the hair shaft rough, weakens it from the outside, and can clog the scalp follicles if not washed out properly.

But here’s what people miss — hard water doesn’t directly cause your hair to stop growing. It damages the existing hair and makes it more prone to breakage.
